The short version

The Oldyon blog has no reader accounts, no comments and no advertising. It sets no cookies for readers, and uses analytics to see which articles are useful, which you can turn off below.

Analytics

We use PostHog, an analytics service hosted in the United States, to learn which pages are useful, what people search for and where they get stuck. It records the pages you view, the links and buttons you click, how far you scroll, and on the shop the parts you add to your cart and when you go to checkout. It also records your browser, device and screen size, the website that sent you here, and any errors the page runs into. PostHog uses your IP address to estimate your country and city.

Some visits are kept as session recordings: a replay of the page as you saw it, with your mouse movements, scrolling and anything typed into the site, such as a search. A recording starts only once you use the page. No part of this site asks for your name, address or payment details, so recordings do not contain them.

To recognise a returning browser, PostHog keeps a random ID and its settings in this browser's local storage for this site, and the current tab notes that the page has been used so a recording can carry on to the next page. These are not cookies, are not shared with other websites, and are never linked to your name or email address.

Analytics does not run at all when your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal. You can also turn it off for this site here:

Server logs

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, records the usual technical details of each request such as IP address, browser type and the page requested. These logs are used to keep the site running and secure and are kept for a limited time.
